Some of the photographers that have been consistent in the project and also inspired me with their work will be introduced here in this blog. First one is Caryn Leigh Posnansky from NYC.
Where are you from?
I’m a New Yorker, born in Brooklyn, grew up in Staten Island and have lived in Manhattan for about 16 years. Before becoming a photographer, I worked in TV production as a casting director and talent manager and that gave me the opportunity to spend some time outside of NY… The Bahamas, Maryland/DC, San Diego, The Jersey Shore and Montana.
What is your style of photography?
I’m a simple photographer, I think I just made up a style of photography, but it’s how I shoot and who I am. I always wish that I had a more eclectic way of thinking/working. Always wished I had the mind of someone like Jerry N Uelsmann or David LaChappelle, but I’m finally embracing me and who I am. So, yes, simple.
What inspires you?
People inspire me. Usually strangers along the way. I’m shocked I haven’t been beaten up for staring at people. At least I’m an equal opportunity starer… shape, size, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation… I stare at them all and they all inspire me.
Who influenced you as a photographer?
Influenced me? Is it odd and horrible to say that I truly don’t know? I am a big fan of Andrew Eccles and Ondrea Barbe. looking at their work inspires me to shoot for me, rather than shooting to pay the bills. I also enjoy looking at up and coming photographers’ work. But oddly enough, it was actually the people closest to me who influenced me to become a photographer, my family and friends.
What does photography mean to you?
The simple answer… it has always my creative outlet, my way of expressing myself. It just makes me happy, makes life feel right.
How did you hear about this project?
Facebook. Seems like such a cliche answer these days, but it’s as easy as that. I read what Photography Colony was about, and for me, it was a no brainer. People just shooting to shoot and share. No stress, no pay scale, no drama, just shooting to shoot. Love it! Thank you!
